PAINTED PINE CABINETS
The case of this country style cabinet is actually made of antique
poplar which was resawn from hand hewn timbers. The top is
made from heart pine that came from the same 1830 barn as the
poplar. This cabinet is painted with two different colors of milk
paint to simulate a well worn cabinet. After the paint is sanded
smooth it is sealed with a coat of linseed oil and beeswax. The
hinges are rattail brass hinges made by Ball & Ball Hardware.
This primitive cabinet is made from the same heart
pine as the cabinet on the left. It is finished in a
whitewash finish using milk paint and oil and wax.
The fine weathered heart pine has been only very
lightly sanded to show the natural aging of this 170
year old wood.
