PENNSYLVANIA STYLE KITCHEN TABLE
Pine tables such as this were made in
Pennsylvania in the early 1700's. The tops
were attached to the base by pegs that were
inserted into holes drilled into a batten that was
glued to the top. Another feature of the early
tables were drawer fronts that overlapped the
frame. This table is copied from a table featured
in Wallace Nuttings "Furniture of the Pilgrim
Century". The old growth pine that this table is
constructed of, comes from a Pennsylvania barn
constructed in 1830.
PINE KITCHEN TABLE
The top for this table is made from two pieces of 1830 pine. This lumber was recovered from the floor of a
Penn. barn. It is two inches thick and has been lightly planed and sanded to retain the character of the wood.
This old growth pine is very dense and shows 170 years of use.
