The Halsey House Museum is located in Southampton, New York. It was built in 1648 by Thomas Halsey. This
historic house contains many fine pieces of 17th, and 18th, C. furniture.  Of particular interest to me was a fine
Dominy chair, Through the kind cooperation of the museum directer I was able to photograph and measure this
rare original chair.
The Director of the Southampton
Museums tells me that furniture
experts believe that the rush seats on
many of the Dominy chairs were done
by the local Indians. The intricate
design on the chair is thought to be a
lost art.  The rush seat on my
reproduction chairs have the standard
pattern.
