CIVIL WAR ERA WOOD BED LATHE

BUFFALO, NEW YORK
This lathe came from a sawmill in
Buffalo, New York that dates from
the 1800's.  Sadly there are no
manufacturers names or initials
anywhere on the castings.  Judging
from the crudeness of the castings
and the fact that all the gears are
made of wood, I think that this
machine is quite old.  Most lathes
from the late 1800's had Babbitt
bearings, however, this lathe has
brass bearings. The bed is original,
and is made from massive maple
timbers.
